THE IDEA
"Feeling Sounds" was born from the experience of onA.I.R., a promoter of accessibility for over 13 years. The aim is to allow people with cochlear implants, hearing aids or mild hearing loss to enjoy the guided tour and the sound of the stones in Pinuccio Sciola's Sound Garden directly in their hearing aids, with clean, clear and interference-free audio that makes every harmony perceived.
onA.I.R. has made available on loan for free use the equipment to test the system at this magical outdoor museum. The test began in June 2025 and ended the 1st of November.
PINUCCIO SCIOLA'S SOUND GARDEN:
A UNIQUE SENSORY EXPERIENCE
The Sound Garden is in San Sperate, a village in southern Sardinia, about 20 kilometres from Cagliari. A museum, art, and sensory park, hosts over 700 works by the artist Pinuccio Sciola, some of which are monolithic and sound-based. With around 30,000 visitors a year from all over the world, it is a magical and unexpected place, full of energy, it is able of engaging all the senses, where sculptures are surrounded by orange trees and aromatic Mediterranean plants, creating an identity in complete harmony with nature. Acclaimed by the New York Times, it is one of Sardinia's best-known and most evocative art venues, focusing on listening to and feeling the vibrations of stone, which, with some light touches, it can produce unexpected sounds, varying according to the material. One of Italy's most important open-air museums, the Garden is the perfect place for activities related to auditive perception, learning about new sounds, and sensory inclusion, and it is the ideal setting for some tests with cochlear implants and advanced hearing technologies.

HOW THE VISIT UNFOLDS
During the first 30 minutes you can enter to the Sound Garden and watch a documentary about Pinuccio Sciola and the sounds he managed to evoke from stones. You can discover the artistic revolution of Pinuccio Sciola who transformed San Sperate into a museum town thanks to the paintings on the walls of houses (murals).
For the second part of the tour you can meet an expert guide for a tour that engages all the senses. You can touch the sculptures, feel their vibrations, and listen to the different sounds produced by basalt and limestone.
